October 29th - Republic Day

Flags go up all over Turkey to celebrate 90 years of the Turkish Republic.
Some are traffic-stoppers.

  2. Do you get arrested for driving through it....
Ataturk must be revolving at speed at the current state of the nation.

    1. The ends were eventually tied up , but there were a few heated coments from the drivers held up by the process.

  7. Cumhuriyet bayrami kutlu olsun! That is one massive flag, though I am embracing all the sights of flags at the moment - saw the celebrations in Izmir, greatly wished to be there. Selamlar, Ozlem

  9. It's the one day out of all the celebrations here that I never forget. The great Ataturk was so ahead of his time, and he must be turning in his grave at the state of the country today. Enjoy your trip to England. Hope to see you when you get back xxx

  11. WOW!!! That is one big huge 'flag'......tooooo bad things are changing. Ataturk was a very smart and ahead of his time man. I heard here from some of my husband's Turkish friends just talking that this day will probably be cancelled sometime soon. :-( Some Turks here are for the changes...then I think then why are you living here, go back and follow his rules. I'm sure your daughters with the short skirts and high heels will love it there.
    Enjoy your trip....
