Signs of Summer.

Summer arrived last week.  The first charter flights of the year started landing at Bodrum airport. The first cruise liner docked and filled the town with visitors on a day that was already heaving with free-concert goers and the sun not only came out, but warmed us up so much that even those who doggedly hang on to their jackets all through April had to abandon long sleeves or melt. Our daily dog walks along the beach were shelved as the bikini clad began to stake their claim on the sand and anyway Jake looks rather overdressed in his long winter coat among the half naked.  A few hardy souls were even swimming.  The prospect of summer coming reminds me of summer past, especially of our old friends Kath and Dave who spent some of their epic road trip with us and let us join them in their adventure.  I don't have to look far to think of them as their gift to us is growing just outside the window; a young lime tree bearing at least twenty tiny fruit.  By any reckoning that should be good for a few months supply of gin and tonic and the odd Thai curry.

Cheers to good friends.

A lime tree, a rare sight in Bodrum.

Red sky at night

(I tempted fate by writing this post - the wind has now blown the clouds in and cardies and jackets are back on.)

  1. Hello:

Clearly the brief flirtation with summer is now over. We have been experiencing wonderfully warm, spring days but today also has turned much chillier. Although the summer visitors must be a welcome sight, at least where the economy is concerned, the thought of cruise ships and charter flights is, at best, a little depressing.

    1. I run away from Bodrum the minute the streets fill up and re-enter only when schools have long gone back.

    2. I'd like to say yes it was, but we didn't get much of a storm here at all. A few small rumblings of thunder, and just a drizzle of rain.

  3. Lovely photos Annie - especially the red sky behind the castle. Hope we can get back to Bodrum again soon - we'll bring the bottle of gin! Şerefe! x

  4. We're having those days - belting hot sun, then chill winds. I was surprised to hear a real chorus of crickets this evening, as I've been feeling rather cold and have had lots of layers on and boots....does this mean I've gone native, I wonder?
Nice to know the warmer weather is on its way though.

  5. Now craving a G&T. Well done, B to B! Gnnnn. Here in the South of France we have the first signs of summer too - topless women on the beach trying to get a head start on their tans. Very strange when you are still dressed in a pair of jeans, a jumper and a scarf...

  6. B to B, Here on Burgazada, we've had such lovely summer-like weather, we comfortably hung out in our garden and entertained friends outside two nights in a row. And, like you, woke up this morning to overcast skies, wind and plunging temps. Sigh! But maybe it's better not to rush it and fully enjoy spring, too.

  9. Sorry its visit was so short-lived, but at least you can be sure that summer will be back in force before long. Over here it's always a toss-up as to what we'll get. Enjoy your gin and lime. :-)

  11. Dear Annie, here Winter is being recalcitrant also, refusing to let go of its grip on weather. So we have a 70-degree day one day and a 40 the next. The body--mine at least--is confused. To coat or not to coat, that is the question! Peace.
